# Conducting Interviews

> How to create, fill out, and publish interview records in Credentials Portal.

Interviews in Credentials Portal are structured records that document a candidate's board interview. They capture form responses, audio recordings, file attachments, and the board's recommendation.

## Prerequisites

* You must be assigned to the board for this interview
* The candidate must have a profile in the district
* An administrator must have created the interview record (or configured a profile that lets board members create them)

## Fill out an interview form

    Click **Interviews** in the main navigation. You'll see interviews assigned to your board.

    Click a candidate's name to open their interview record.

  <Step title="Fill in the form fields">
    Complete each field in the interview form. Field types include:

    * **Dropdown** — Select one option (e.g., "Recommend" or "Do not recommend")
    * **Long text** — Type extended notes or observations
    * **Short text** — Type a brief response
    * **Checkbox** — Mark as completed
    * **File attachment** — Upload supporting documents

    Your responses save automatically as you type. You can return to finish the form later.

## Create a new interview record

If your role and the interview profile allow board members to create interviews:

    Go to **People** and click on the candidate's name.

  <Step title="Click + New Interview">
    On the candidate's profile or the Interviews section, click **+ New Interview**.

    Choose the interview date, board, and interview profile (form template).

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Create Interview**. The form opens for you to fill in.

## Attach files

Within an interview record, use the **File Attachments** field to upload supporting materials — quiz results, signed forms, or reference documents.

    Select a file from your device. You can attach multiple files.

## Publish an interview

Publishing makes the interview results visible to the candidate and their mentor.

<Warning>
  Only publish an interview when the board's review is complete and final. Once published, the candidate can see the results (excluding private fields).

    Click the **Publish** button or toggle at the top of the interview.

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Confirm that you want to publish. The candidate will receive a notification.

## Private fields

Fields marked **private** in the interview form are visible only to administrators — they are never shown to candidates or mentors regardless of publish status. Use private fields for internal board notes.
